Sashiko is a simple Japanese hand stitch that creates beautiful patterns through repetition and rhythm. In this two-week workshop, we’ll explore sashiko as a quiet, meditative way to work with cloth—strengthening fabric, adding pattern, and creating small quilted and stitched pieces. The first class will work on technique, the second will be for student projects including mending or decorative textiles. Samples will be created and you will leave with ideas for using sashiko in quilts, clothing, and home textiles. This class is suitable for beginners and experienced stitchers who enjoy slow handwork and pattern.
Notes:
Sashiko needles and thread will be available for $10 at the first class. You may chose to shop your own or use conventional needle and embroidery thread. Fabric for samples and practice will be supplied.
