Restorative justice (RJ) is a growing movement offering a community-based alternative to our punitive criminal legal system. Using a variety of practices, RJ builds community, facilitates collective problem-solving, healing, and accountability, and welcomes people back into our communities after a separation. Through an interactive community building circle, a restorative conference, and a reintegration circle, we will experience the three core "tiers" of restorative justice firsthand. Whether you're curious about restorative justice, work with people, or want new ways to build stronger communities and respond to conflict, this course is for you. Students will also learn about related programming in the city of Philadelphia and how to get involved.
