Tiny, vivid, and gem-like, miniature works of art evoke worlds unto themselves that lead viewers into another realm. An intimate art form, miniatures could be worn as jewelry, tucked inside clothing, and created as tokens of love and devotion. We will explore an array of small wonders, from early times through to the mid-twentieth century, drawn from national and international museums. Enter the wee world of the Carnegie Museum of Art’s Gallery of Miniatures, delve into the Nelson-Atkins Museum’s Starr Collection of Portrait Miniatures, and explore the Met’s vast collection among others. Short videos enrich the conversation.
Fee: $49.00
