Learn about famous artists from the 18th and 19th centuries including John Smibert, John Wollaston and Germantown locals James Reid and George Cochran Lambdin while exploring the portraits at Cliveden. Participants will learn about the artists, period painting styles and the people in the portraits and then have an opportunity to look at many of the paintings up close.

Cliveden Carriage House, 6401 Germantown Ave., rear

The Carriage House is best reached from Cliveden St., which is between Upsal and Johnson Streets. Parking is available in the church parking lot near Morton St. and also on the street. The Carriage House entrance is at the Morton St. end of Cliveden St., on the right side, through a gate, onto the grounds of Cliveden House. The Route 23 bus stops at Germantown Avenue & Cliveden Street.

Carolyn Wallace

an interpreter, educator, and collections manager with over ten years of experience working with historic sites. In her current role as Education Director for Cliveden of the National Trust, her work focuses on research and interpretation of diverse narratives through sustainable programming for youth and adults and exhibit design. Carolyn is passionate about making connections between past and present and helping visitors to do the same.
