Have you ever used a tree's stored sunlight and warmth to prepare a meal? Come learn the basics of fire building and Dutch oven cooking while enjoying a community-shared meal. Whether you’ve done this before or not, you’re welcome to join in the fun, challenges, and satisfaction of eating a root veggie and bean stew prepared with coals from a fire you built. We will also bake cornbread over the fire to complete the meal. Enjoy the connections that come from sharing the warmth and nourishment the fire provides. This class is a great chance to build your skills, enjoy good food, and connect with others in a relaxed, outdoor setting. You will enjoy your stew in a beautiful handmade bowl by Potter Nick Corso. Families welcome with children 10 years and older.
Notes:
There is no materials fee, however like stone soup, bring a vegetable or vegetarian ingredient to add to the pot. Students will have the option to purchase handmade pottery by Nick Corso of Wissahickon Pottery.
The class will take place at the instructor's home located at 890 Wises Mill Rd, Philadelphia, PA 19128. There is limited parking at her home, and students may also park at Valley Green and walk up to her house.

For Five Elements Class: Rachel has been practicing Five Element-style acupuncture for 15 years, and is continuously amazed by the wisdom of nature and how it guides her to align within herself and with the world around her. She loves helping others do the same. For Fire Building and Dutch Oven Cooking- Rachel and Nick Corso have cooked many meals on open fires in their backyard over the past 10 years. Before living in Philadelphia, they lived at Healthcote Community in Maryland, where they shared community meals every night, and Nick's famous cob oven pizza (perhaps a future cob biulding class is in order to get that experience here!). They cherished the connections they had there and want to share that experience with you. So come cozy up by the fire and let's nourish ourselves.
