Breaking from the tight formalism and traditional beauty of 50's post-war cinema, a new wave of exciting filmmakers (many of whom were former apprentices) experimented with form and style in an effort to reflect the cynicism, uncertainty, and fast pace of modern Japanese society. Come explore these bold and subversive films that depict the transgressive behavior, forbidden love, and restless yearning of a generation in search of itself. Each week we'll watch a celebrated film from the era, followed by a fun and thoughtful discussion on what we've just seen. The course is ideal for both foreign film lovers, as well as beginners to Japanese cinema.
Fee: $79.00
