Learn how to write a picture book for children! For writers interested in traditional publishing, we'll discuss topics such as page and word count, craft, and how to pitch to agents and editors. Please bring your ideas or even a work in progress! We'll have time to discuss and/or work on a writing prompt each class.

Chestnut Hill Friends Meeting, 20 E. Mermaid Lane

From Stenton Ave. (Hill Tower Apts), if you're coming from Mt. Airy, turn left on Mermaid Lane. (If you're coming from Chestnut Hill or beyond, turn right on Mermaid Lane. After you go under the train trestle, go to the sixth driveway on your left, almost to Winston Road. There is parking for 20+ cars to the right of the meetinghouse. Enter the meetinghouse by the side door on the left of the building (on the far side from their parking lot). The Chestnut Hill East train line stops at Wyndmoor (Willow Grove Avenue & Wyndmoor Street) is about 5 blocks away. The Route 23 bus stops 1 block away, at Germantown Avenue and Winston Road.

Sarah Claxton

is a member of SCBWI and has many seminars through them, as well as Big Sur and Highlights Writers Workshops. In 2022 she was a RUCCL mentee and won a scholarship to the Middle Grade Novel workshop at Highlights Foundation. In 2024 she was awarded a Silver Level scholarship to 12x12 Challenge, attended the invitation-only PJ Library PB Summer Camp and was awarded the Volemos Grant from SCBWI. She has self-published two picture books and is working on many more.
